HOUSTON (BP)--Elele Ekadeli capped off a slew of post-season honors with her selection to the NAIA All-America Team.

The junior from Nakuru, Kenya, was named to the NAIA's First Team after being named Player of the Year for Region VI and the Red River Athletic Conference. She averaged 5.66 kills and 3.61 digs per game in leading the Huskies in their championship campaign. She also was named the RRAC Newcomer of the Year after playing her first two years at Lee College before becoming a Husky.

In her first year at HBU, Ekadeli became the first volleyball player to record over 600 kills in a single season, with 628, breaking the school record of 498 set by Kim Lowe in 1994. She had 20 double-doubles on the season with four matches of 30 kills. She also had four 20-dig matches.

The HBU volleyball team finished the 2001 season with a 29-7 record and a No. 12 national ranking in NAIA Top 25 poll.

The Huskies won their fourth straight conference championship and took the top seed into the NAIA Region VI Tournament, but fell just one match shy of a return trip to the NAIA National Tournament with a season-ending loss to St. Gregory's University.
