No. 3 seed Lady Bears head to Tucson
Thursday, Mar 16, 2006
By Julie Bennett

WACO, Texas (BP)--Baylor’s women’s basketball team, the No. 3 seed in the Albuquerque Regional, will face 14th-seeded Northern Arizona March 18 in McKale Memorial Center on the campus of the University of Arizona.

Joining Baylor and NAU in first round action are sixth-seeded Florida (21-8) and New Mexico (21-9), a No. 11 selection.

Baylor, the reigning NCAA champion, is 24-6 on the season and ranked No. 10 in both the AP and Coaches Poll. The Lady Bears will be appearing in the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year and fifth time in the last six years while NAU (21-10) will be making its first-ever appearance.

The Lumberjacks received an automatic bid by winning the Big Sky Conference Tournament.

"Our players understand that it is a one-game season from now on," head coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson said. “We went to Tempe last year, Tucson this year. The weather's warm, the altitude is not a problem, it's just hard for our fans to get there but hopefully, they'll make the trip. Florida, New Mexico and Baylor were all in the same bracket a couple of years ago (2004) and here we are together again.”

First round winners will face off in second round action March 20, and the winner of that game will advance to Albuquerque to play either St. John’s (N.Y.), California, Maryland or Sacred Heart March 25.

The Baylor/NAU game will be broadcast on ESPN2.
